Aloha Lions, CIS and friends of Hawaii Kai Lions!

What a spectacular past month! The highlight was our fabulous 43rd Anniversary Charter Banquet where we honored our five, very active charter members Lions Delwin Ching, Bunny Lee, Toshio Nishioka, Richard Okamoto and Rick Yee. With many visitors including our sister club the Nagoya Joto Lions, our sponsor club the Hibiscus Lions, Kaimuki Lions, Koko Head Lions and our District Governor Kelvin Moniz, the evening was the best.

Our new 2016-2017 Board and Officers were also installed, so congratulations:
President Lion PDG Roy Aoki
1st Vice President Lion Alvin Hayashibara
2nd Vice President Lion Sandy Gomes
3rd Vice President Lion Eric Kimura
Secretary Lion Cynthia Chun
Treasurer Lion Eric Kvick
Tail Twister Lion Marja Leivo
Lion Tamer Lion Walter Kuroiwa
Director Lion PDG Mervin Wee
Director Lion Jeanne Alices
Bulletin Editor Lion Joel Leo
Immediate Past President Lion David Iwana

Prior to our Charter night, the Nagoya Joto Lions made their annual gift presentation to the Hawaii Kai Library. What made this event even more special was the delivery of the newly constructed display case made by Lions Eric Kvick and Bill Modglin, with a little help from Lions Eric Kimura, Ed Lee and Peggy Oyama, for the Japanese artifacts. Beautiful!

Another project we participated in was the Food Bank Hawaii drive, where we collected masses of food and money at Hawaii Kai Towne Center. We also participated in the Kalani Complex 5th Grade Fitness Day. Both extremely worthy projects for the club!

Early this month, several of our leadership team will be traveling to Kaua’i for the District 50 Convention. We will have 5 delegates who will be representing our club on a number is voting issues, as well as enjoying the Lion fellowship. Each year, those leaders who attend bring back invaluable information to strengthen our club and help keep us going in the right direction.

Enjoy the May flowers and weather as we move into the summer. Our marquis project and event for the year, our Annual Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast is fast approaching, so stay cool and make it fun!

Aloha, Lion David Iwana, President
