Hawaii Kai Lions District 50 - Club Number 14324

February 2016 President’s Message

Published by Webmaster on

Aloha Lions, CIS and friends of Hawaii Kai Lions!

We are the most active Lions Club in Hawaii (at least I think we are)! This past month we had more school vision and hearing screenings, removed invasive seaweed from Maunalua Bay, and cleaned tons of eyeglasses with the Kaiser High School Leo Club. It was great to continue our core activities, but also do an environmental project and a combined activity with the Leo Club!

For February, we start off with the After Glow of Christmas Past, where we will continue the holiday spirit at the Iwana’s house. Yes, Christmas is alive and well, especially old and antique Christmas dating back to the mid-1800’s. However, the most notable event will be the Lunalilo Home Annual Lu’au. At this event, the Hawaii Kai Lions Club will be presented with the prestigious King Lunalilo “Malama Kupuna” award. It recognizes our organization for making a significant impact on the lives of kupuna at Lunalilo Home as well as in the community. What a great honor!

Another environmental project has been calendared: the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve Clean-up. This is a morning only project that includes education about the bay and clean-up. It is also another joint project with the Kaiser High School Leo Club! Also, more school vision screenings and the Zone Social Luncheon are scheduled.

During this month, we will begin future planning for the 2016-2017 year. The Clubs Nominating Committee chairman, Lion Peggy Oyama, will start solidifying the next Board and Officers slate, so please contact her if you are interested in serving. We always need everyone’s participation to ensure a healthy and successful club in the future!

And for those romantics out there, have a very “Happy Valentines”! Remember, service with a smile!

Aloha,
Lion David Iwana
