Lions, CISs and friends,

Kung Hee Fat Choy!!!

Mahalo goes to the three Hawaii Kai Lions who were part of the Leadership Team that completed another successful Leadership Training Institute session last month during the Martin Luther King weekend. Lions Ken Nishibun, PDG Mervin Wee and David Iwana did another outstanding job as instructors. Lions Jeanne Alices and Marja Leivo attended as students and came back with very positive comments about this year’s session.

Thank you to Membership Chair Lion Cindy Giorgis for hosting the Orientation Session at the clubhouse on January 26. New Lions Lianne Poppinga, Paula Chow and soon-to-be Lion Tom Haia were given a session on the entire Lions Organization, from the International, District and local levels.

February will be a mix bag of activities as we will be inducting Tom Haia on February 2nd and we will be judging the Sight is Beautiful posters from the elementary schools in Hawaii Kai. Also, Immediate Past President Lion David Iwana will be presenting the slate of officers for the next fiscal year starting in July. The second meeting on February 16th will be a joint meeting with the Manoa Lions Club at the Stan Sheriff Center where we will be attending the UH Wahine basketball game. This is an event that was created several years ago. For those who has never attended a UH Wahine basketball game, this will be an enjoyable night. Although the Wahines are rebuilding this year, they are progressing really well. The other function this month is the Zone Social on February 25 at the Palolo Chinese Home. This is an annual event put on by the Zone Clubs in Region V. The clubs involved will be Diamond Head Lions Club, Hawaii Kai Lions Club, Kaimuki Lions Club, and the Koko Head Lions Club. It will be a luncheon starting at 10:00 am.

Pancake Breakfast Chair Lion Rick Yee held his first meeting on our annual fundraiser. The location of the breakfast will be at Kaiser High School, the price of the breakfast will remain at $6.00 per ticket and canvassing will start on April 9, 2017. Other details of the breakfast are being worked on at this time.

Let us remain involved and focused as we keep the Hawaii Kai Lions Club as one of the best in Hawaii. Keep up the good work.

Lion Roy Aoki

2016-2017 President
