August 29th – Koko Head Elementary HI-5 Sorting

Published by Webmaster on

Submitted by Frances Lum

Alongside Principal Jeffrey Shitaoka and a slew of Koko Head Elementary School PTSA parents, President Yolisa Ishibashi, Secretary Cynthia Chun, and Lions Eric Kimura, Appan Subramanian, and Frances Lum got down on the ground and sorted through a sea of plastic and glass bottles and aluminum cans on August 29, 2023. Sorting required recognizing which items must be trashed (non HI-5 items) and twisting off a lot of bottle caps. Throughout the year, Koko Head Elementary School collects recyclable containers in two large “cages” built by Hawaii Kai Lions years ago. The proceeds from the HI-5 bottles and cans go directly back to support the school and its students.

Anyone may donate bottles and cans, but please be sure that they are indeed HI-5 and please remove the caps.
