August 2016 President’s Message
Lions, CISs and friends,
With the passing of Tropical Storm Darby throughout the entire Hawaiian Island chain, I hope you and your family and friends are well. Although Darby ended up as more of a rain event, there were moments of uncertainty with thunder and lightning throughout the day and night and there were many who lost property.
Thank you to Lion Kazu Nakano who audited our financial records for the past year and gave the club a clean bill of health.
Kudos to our own Lion Cynthia Chun, chair of the International Youth Camp whose campers enjoyed their stay in the islands with various activities including the Diamond Head Hike with our zone clubs and the farewell dinner at Wilson Elementary School. Thank you also to our members who participated. Well done Lion Cynthia in addition to all you do for us.
Mahalo to the Lions and CISs who attended the installation of officers of our zone club, the Diamond Head Lions Club and the club we sponsored in 1987, the Hibiscus Lions Club.
District Governor Nadine Nishioka attended our meeting in July and said the Hawaii Kai Lions Club is one of the best in Hawaii. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Zone Chair Lion Karen Tsukiyama and her son as he recovers from surgery. ZC Karen was unable to attend our meeting as planned with DG Nadine. As we all know, family comes first in the Lions Organization.
Our August schedule brings two events that we participate in. The annual Heart Walk on August 13, chaired by Lion Dr. Bill Modglin and our open house event chaired by Lion Cindy Giorgis. Lion Cindy will have a program for potential members. These are individuals who have expressed interest in joining our Lions Club. You are all encouraged to attend (CISs are also invited to attend) and encourage your friends, neighbors or interested individuals to join us as they may be interested in becoming Lions.
Let us remain involved and focused as we keep the Hawaii Kai Lions Club as one of the best in Hawaii as our District Governor Lion Nadine said on her visit with us.
